Story

Marc Levenson Rodriguez or Lev as his fondly called by his peers was a Com-Sci double major Business Management student when he entered the world modeling at the age of 18. He was mentored by Ariel Agasang and walked for some of the country’s respected designers, the likes of Gerry katigbak, Peter Lim, Herbert Custodio, Robbie Lolin and some of the YDG’s fashion shows and to a new comer at that time Puey Quinones. Retail stores such as the now defunct Sari-Sari and Anonymous to imported brands by SSI.

It wasn’t until he was invited to a Patis Tessoro’s show in Manila Hotel, 1999, that he found the calling the be a fashion designer. Thinking to himself that he would like to design the clothes the models are wearing instead of walking the runway. At the age of 20 he came up with the brand Hypocrite an underground rave wear opening his store in Citiland Shaw. This was the time of rave parties and warehouse parties. His contemporaries were Ronald Passion’s Warp, Milkwear, Cecile Zamora’s Grocery, Adam deLumen’s Havoc to name some.

His aesthetic was European clubwear. Black, leather, faux fur eyelets and leatherete were his signature style. He was commissioned by agencies to design costumes for bar promodizers such as Jack Danielle’s and Lucky Strike. He was dressing up Boy Abunda and Rosana Roces for their Sunday talkshow. But just like any trends the rave era was on its decline phase already by 2001, Lev made a logical decision to close up the store and concentrate on directing fashion shows and working as fashion assistants to Sander Andan, Fashion Editor of Raymond Lontok’s Fashion Forcast newspaper edited by Joyce Fernandez. He also worked for Folio Magazine, a magazine way ahead of its time published by Vicky Perez de Tagle.

After almost 4 years directing fashion shows and working as a fashion assistant, Lev realized that he misses creating clothes. At 26, with broader knowledge with the fashion industry, he decided to come back to what he loves doing. This time as a tailor specializing on men’s suit ensembles.

2005 was the establishment of Rodriguez de Alba Bespoke until it was rebranded to Levenson Rodriguez Bespoke in 2007. His first big client was Mr. Butch Jimenez of PLDT. Paying a premium amount to someone who just started with a suiting business. Ordering 4 suit ensembles each year. This gave him the confidence to be better at what he loves. Some of his more previous high profile clients are Lloyd Lee (Sahmcey Supsup’s husband) and Jericho Rosales.

It was around 2007 that LaSalle College International hired him as an educator for Fashion History and Fashion Society. He was also a member of the faculty in the School of Fashion and the Arts (SoFA) for 6 years teaching Trend Analysis and Fashion Styling and 5 years in Fashion Institue of the Philippines teaching Fashion Marketing and Fashion Merchandising. 2016 was the year he co-founded the Institute of Creative Entrepreneurship (which he helped branded with the help of Ric Gindap of Designs for Tomorrow). He was its Director of Marketing. He developed and thought the 3 most fundamental theoretical studies for the school - Research and Development, Retail and Merchandising, and Fashion Marketing. Collection Portfolio Development. Levenson foregoes his partnership last October to open his own school with his brother that was scheduled to launch last June 2020. Unfortunately, this pandemic happened.
Ever a forward thinker, Lev established his Levenson Rodriguez Virtual Learning Series as early as June. Making him the first to offer virtual learning on fashion-related classes.

Offering Brand Development and Fashion Marketing.
August saw the launch of his Virtual Learning Series - Limited Engagement Inviting experts from different fields to share their talents. Ehrran Montoya (Fashion Illustration), Guilly Villanueva (Makeup Artistry), Video Production (Matthew Rodriguez), Miguel Alomajan (Fashion Photography)

He also worked as the head Fashion Stylist of SM Ladies Fashion. Producing new ad campaigns for the department store that would dictate to the mass market what style should be

Levenson is also the founder of Fashion Designers Alliance (FaDAL) Manila. Established 2009. His main objective is to get up and coming talented fashion designers. They celabrated its 10th year last March 11 at Revel the Palace (the last fashion event since the pandemic happened). They celebrated its 10th year by introducing FaDAL Baguio led by Julienne Paran and FaDAL Mindanao, spearheaded by Xioti Chiu.

Some of its notable alumni are Happy Andrada, Jaz Cerezo, Cherry Veric, Mark Tamayo, Cheetah Rivera, Milka Quin, Mikee Andrei, Oz Go, Kaye Morales

From being a fashion assistant, Lev is now the Fashion Editor of CommTalk Magazine, a corporate lifestyle magazine for the aspirational published by Ayala.
